Dear colleagues,
With great joy and humility, I’d like to share PARABÓLICO: REFLECTIONS ON GILBERTO GIL, the first volume of an ongoing large-ensemble project dedicated to the music of one of Brazil’s most influential artists.
Featuring singer Mônica Salmaso and my Gaia Wilmer Large Ensemble, the album reimagines Gilberto Gil’s music through new compositions, orchestrations, and musical structures that bring Brazilian musical traditions into dialogue with contemporary jazz, improvisation, and orchestral writing.
Released by Sunnyside Records, Parabólico has been met with wonderful recognition, including five stars and Global Album of the Month from The Guardian and four stars from DownBeat. I’m grateful to share this work with you and for the opportunity to celebrate the richness, creativity, and enduring spirit of Brazilian music through this project.
